People calling Trump’s plans ‘insane’ and ‘dangerous’ as he issues severe warning to US city

Donald Trump announced today that he’s holding a meeting to discuss a new, highly controversial plan that many people are calling “insane” and “dangerous.” He issued a strong warning to Washington, D.C., promising a no-nonsense approach to dealing with two groups: the homeless and criminals.

Trump said he wants to make the U.S. capital “safer and more beautiful than ever” by immediately removing homeless people living in tents and relocating them far from the city. He also said criminals would not be told to leave—he plans to put them in jail. He promised quick action, comparing it to his aggressive approach at the U.S. border, where he claimed illegal crossings dropped from millions to zero.

On his Truth Social account, Trump posted photos of tents, litter, and garbage in D.C., saying there would be “no Mr. Nice Guy” in his crackdown. He blamed the city’s problems on Mayor Muriel Bowser, saying she’s had “many chances” to fix crime and cleanliness but failed.

Trump said his upcoming news conference will focus on both “crime and beautification” of the city, aiming to end violent crime, clean up the streets, and restore what he calls “the most beautiful capital in the world” to its former state.

Legally, Trump’s ability to enforce such a plan is complicated. Congress controls D.C.’s budget, while local leaders manage most city affairs. As president, Trump could only directly control federal property and agencies, but he could increase military or National Guard presence. Reports suggest the U.S. military is preparing to send hundreds of National Guard troops to D.C., though their mission hasn’t been clearly defined yet.

This wouldn’t be the first time Trump has used the Guard—he previously deployed them to Los Angeles during immigration protests. In Washington, unlike in states, the president has direct authority over the National Guard. The move comes after reports of violent incidents in the city, including an attempted carjacking involving a Trump administration worker.

However, Mayor Bowser and police data contradict Trump’s claims about crime. According to D.C. police, violent crime is down 26% compared to last year, and Bowser says the city has reached a 30-year low in violent crime. The city has about 3,782 homeless people, with most in shelters and around 800 living on the streets.

Online reaction has been fierce. Many people have described Trump’s plan as dangerous, unnecessary, and possibly a way to normalize having military forces on U.S. streets. Others speculate it might be a sign of bigger, more serious political or military moves to come.
