Pope Leo gave terrifying warning about future of AI as he urged Church to ‘stand up for workers’ rights’

Pope Leo has shared his concerns about the future of artificial intelligence (AI), warning that it could have serious consequences for workers and society if not handled responsibly. He believes the Catholic Church needs to take a strong position in defending the rights and dignity of workers as this new technology becomes more common.
As AI continues to grow and develop, many people are hopeful about its potential, but there are also growing fears. One of the biggest concerns is that AI could replace a lot of human jobs, leaving many without work. Famous figures like Stephen Hawking and Bill Gates have warned about this in the past, and business leaders like Elon Musk are already using AI in powerful ways.
Pope Leo, who became the leader of the Catholic Church earlier this month, is not very enthusiastic about the rise of AI. Born in Chicago as Robert Francis Prevost, he took the name Pope Leo XIV when he was officially welcomed into his new role on May 8. Since taking office, he has spoken out on several global issues, including calling for peace in Ukraine, a ceasefire in Gaza, and aid for people affected by conflict. He also welcomed the recent peace efforts between India and Pakistan.
In addition to these messages, Pope Leo has stressed the importance of protecting workers in the face of new technology. He said the Church must continue to promote its social teachings, especially now, as we face what he sees as a new kind of industrial revolution brought on by AI. He believes AI is creating serious challenges to justice, human dignity, and fair labor, and he wants the Church to speak up for those who might be left behind.
Pope Leo chose his name to honor Pope Leo XIII, who in 1891 wrote an important letter to Catholics about the struggles workers faced during the Industrial Revolution. The current pope sees a clear connection between that time and what’s happening now with artificial intelligence. He believes the Church must respond with the same care and commitment as it did back then.
He also praised the example of past popes, especially Pope Francis, for their humble service, trust in God, and dedication to helping others. Pope Leo hopes to continue that tradition, especially in facing modern challenges like AI.
