A Texas woman has been charged with aggravated assault after a fight between middle school girls ended with a 6-year-old boy getting shot twice, officials said.

On March 2, deputies said a fight between middle school girls started earlier in the day but continued later on in a neighborhood in Spring, according to Harris County Constable Precinct 4.

While the girls were fighting, a woman, later identified as 34-year-old Brittany Sanders, came out from a nearby home and fired a warning shot into the air, police said.

After the warning shot was fired, the girls then ran back to the car they arrived in to the location, according to officials.

“The suspect then fires two to three more shots towards the vehicle, striking within that vehicle a 6-year-old male,” Precinct 4 Cpt. Buddy Gheen said, KPRC reported.

The victim was transported in the vehicle to an area hospital to be treated for what deputies said were injuries to his arm and thigh.

Gheen added that one of Sanders’ children may have been involved in the fight with the girls, according to KPRC.

Sanders was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She was booked into Harris County jail and her bond was set at $20,000.

The investigation is ongoing and no students have been charged with any crimes.
