Daniel and Sarah, Hannah’s parents, endured tough childhoods growing up in extreme poverty. Despite their circumstances, they managed to secure scholarships that allowed them to attend a prestigious high school where they eventually met. Hannah was an introvert, which her parents detested. They tried to get her to participate in school activities and gatherings like birthdays and dinners, but they just weren’t her thing, so she refused to go most of the time. However, whenever she caved to their pressure, she would quickly exempt herself from the crowd and find a quiet corner to read a novel. As Hannah grew older, it dawned on her that she and her parents were complete opposites—their views on life were different. The situation got worse when Hannah graduated from college without ever having been in a relationship. “You picked him over all the guys we invited over? They came from great families! How can you be so stupid?” Sarah said. She was so angry that she almost slapped Hannah. At that point, Hannah lost her cool and demanded an apology from her mom to Alex. Feeling embarrassed and uncomfortable, Alex excused himself and walked out of the house. Hannah was busy exchanging words with her parents, so she didn’t see him leaving.
