President Trump spoke out on Truth Social after it came out that he has the lowest 100-day approval rating of any president in the last 80 years. He finally reacted after staying quiet, posting an angry message about the new poll numbers.
Trump, who won the 2024 election and is about to complete 100 days back in the White House on April 29, is not happy with how the media is reporting on his popularity. Big news outlets like ABC News, The Washington Post, and The New York Times ran polls asking people what they think of Trump’s leadership so far. They looked at how Americans feel about the changes he’s made since taking the presidency back from Joe Biden.
Since returning to office, Trump has been very active. He’s issued executive orders that affect sports, school curriculums, and American history, and he’s also placed new taxes on imported goods. But despite all this, it looks like a lot of people aren’t impressed.
According to a joint poll by ABC News, The Washington Post, and Ipsos, 55% of Americans say they disapprove of the way Trump is handling the presidency. That’s the worst 100-day approval rating for any president in nearly a century. Another poll, run by The New York Times and Siena College, painted an even worse picture: only 42% of people approve of Trump’s performance, and 66% say his presidency so far feels “chaotic.”
After seeing these numbers, Trump went online to slam the polls as fake. He pointed to John McLaughlin, a pollster he trusts, who questioned the fairness of the surveys. McLaughlin said the New York Times poll only had 37% of people who voted for Trump in 2024, and the ABC/Washington Post poll had just 34%, suggesting the polls were intentionally skewed to make Trump look bad. McLaughlin also suggested that Trump had actually won 50% of the popular vote, making these poll results suspicious.
Trump reposted McLaughlin’s comments and accused the New York Times and other media outlets of producing “fake polls from fake news organizations.” He argued that the polls were designed to hurt him and that the organizations should be investigated for election fraud.
Trump claimed these media companies are run by “negative criminals” who lose credibility every time he wins elections they predict he will lose. According to him, they just keep cheating and lying, getting worse each time around.
He also accused the media of suffering from “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” saying that no matter what good things he does, they only report bad news about him. Trump insisted he’s achieving historic results, such as having the best border numbers ever, but that the media still portrays him negatively. He called them “the enemy of the people” and vowed to keep fighting to “Make America Great Again,” despite what he sees as constant unfair attacks.
Meanwhile, The New York Times explained that they chose their poll participants carefully from a list of registered voters and tried to balance the survey to better reflect the real population. The ABC/Washington Post poll included 2,464 adults from across the country, with an even split among Democrats, Republicans, and independents.
