President-elect Donald Trump recently shared his plans for the start of his new administration during a meeting with Vice President-elect J.D. Vance and Republican senators on Capitol Hill. Trump outlined a bold agenda, including issuing 100 executive orders shortly after taking office. These orders will focus heavily on immigration policies, which played a significant role in his victory during the 2024 election.
One of Trump’s first actions will be to reinstate Title 42. This was a rule from his first presidency that allowed the government to quickly deport illegal immigrants using public health concerns as the reason. By bringing it back, Trump aims to streamline deportations and reduce the number of illegal immigrants in the U.S.
Another key measure involves using Section 287(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act. This law allows U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to give state and local police the power to act as immigration officers. Trump’s team plans to expand the use of this policy, enabling local law enforcement to help with immigration enforcement. This step is seen as critical for improving border security, as states like Texas have already used similar measures with success.
In addition to these policies, Trump has promised to finish building the border wall, which was a major focus of his first term. Along with completing the wall, he plans to build more detention centers for holding illegal immigrants and introduce stricter rules on who can apply for asylum. These efforts aim to prevent more people from crossing the border illegally while also dealing with those already in the country.
During his presidency, Joe Biden opposed many of these measures and even fought against border security efforts in court. However, Trump’s administration is determined to reverse those policies and take a tougher stance on immigration. Trump’s plans have received strong support from Republican senators, who cheered during his meeting on Capitol Hill. Their applause reflected optimism that the new administration will act quickly to resolve the immigration crisis.
Trump’s agenda isn’t surprising, given his long-standing focus on immigration. What stands out, however, is the speed at which he plans to act. His goal is not only to tackle the current issues at the border but also to prevent future crises. Supporters of Trump’s approach are hopeful that his policies will bring lasting changes and prioritize the needs of American citizens.
