At a rally in Michigan, President Donald Trump celebrated the first 100 days of his second term, and some of his supporters were thrilled with what he’s done so far. One woman, Becky Godspeed, spoke with MSNBC and said she’s extremely happy about Trump’s performance. She mentioned she’s especially impressed with how he’s handling immigration and border control, saying it’s her top concern and that she believes anyone in the U.S. illegally should be removed.
During these 100 days, immigration officials arrested over 32,000 people who were in the country illegally. Among them were more than 14,000 who had already been convicted of crimes and nearly 10,000 who were facing criminal charges. Thirty-nine of those arrested were suspected terrorists, a much higher number compared to the same time period the previous year, when only 14 suspected terrorists were caught crossing the border.
Border Patrol also reported a significant drop in illegal crossings in March, with just over 7,000 cases. That’s a sharp decline compared to the average of 155,000 per month during President Biden’s time in office.
Another voter, Jay Whitley, also supports Trump’s immigration actions but thinks there should be more careful handling of families who are here illegally. He believes that while criminals should be removed, there might be better ways to treat families who are not causing harm.
Over the weekend, a judge criticized the Trump administration for allegedly deporting a 2-year-old U.S. citizen to Honduras without proper legal steps. The government responded by saying the child wasn’t deported alone. The child’s mother, who was in the country illegally, chose to leave with her children, and they were not separated by force.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio backed up the administration, saying reports about children being deported alone were misleading. He explained that the mothers were deported legally and took their children with them voluntarily. The children could come back to live with their father or someone else the family chose. Rubio said the situation wasn’t as harsh as some reports made it seem.
In short, Trump supporters in Michigan are mostly happy with how he’s handled immigration so far. Some want tough action, while others think there should be a more thoughtful approach, especially when it comes to families.
