Vladimir Putin issued chilling warning to Europeans if ‘God forbid’ nuclear war breaks out

Russian President Vladimir Putin recently gave a serious and frightening warning to Europe about the dangers of nuclear war. During a public discussion at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Putin said that if a nuclear war ever happens, especially involving Russia and Western countries, the consequences would be devastating—especially for Europe.

He explained that Russia and the United States both have early-warning systems that can detect incoming missile attacks, but Europe does not. That means if nuclear missiles were ever launched, European countries would be almost completely unprotected. He stressed that Europe would suffer the most because it doesn’t have the advanced defenses that other powerful nations do.

Putin said he hopes it never comes to that, and Russia has no need to start a nuclear war because its regular military forces are already stronger than many of its enemies. He also warned not to talk lightly about nuclear weapons, adding that if something like that ever happened, it would be a disaster for everyone, especially the countries involved in the fight.

Experts have long feared the effects of a nuclear war. A 2022 study showed that even a short nuclear conflict between Russia, the U.S., and its allies could kill 360 million people directly. The fallout would also destroy global food supplies, leaving up to 5 billion people starving to death. It wouldn’t just be a battle between countries—it would threaten most of humanity.

Another Russian speaker at the same event, political expert Sergei Karaganov, claimed that to win a war, Russia might need to slowly increase its nuclear threats. But Putin responded by saying the world is already afraid enough of nuclear war and doesn’t need more fear.

Meanwhile, some military experts in the West are worried that if NATO countries get more involved in helping Ukraine, Putin might respond with cyberattacks or sabotage, rather than traditional warfare. According to Colonel Richard Kemp, a former British military commander, Putin already has people spread across Europe who could carry out such actions if he wanted to cause chaos without launching a full-scale war.

The UK, like other countries, has plans in case of a nuclear attack. According to Tim Ripley, editor of *Defence Eye*, Britain has a five-step plan it would follow:

First, top government officials, including the prime minister, would leave their usual offices and hide in secret underground bunkers to stay safe and keep running the country.

Next, the UK would use its missile detection system—especially at RAF Fylingdales in North Yorkshire—to spot any incoming missiles as early as possible. If a threat is detected, it would alert the government so it can prepare to respond.

Then, if a nuclear missile actually hits, Britain would respond with its own nuclear weapons. The UK has said it would never strike first; it would only launch its weapons after being attacked to make sure it’s not reacting to a false alarm.

Each of Britain’s nuclear submarines carries a sealed letter from the prime minister known as the “Letter of Last Resort.” If the government is destroyed, the submarine commanders are ordered to open the letter and follow whatever instructions are inside.

Finally, the aftermath of a nuclear strike would be horrific. Even one missile could kill hundreds of thousands, especially in a large city like London. The blast would turn buildings and windows into deadly flying debris. Emergency services would be overwhelmed, and the suffering would be unimaginable.

In short, Putin’s words are a warning that the world is still walking a dangerous line. While no one wants a nuclear war, the threat is real, and governments around the world are taking it very seriously.
