When Jonathan Bauer and his 13-year-old daughter decided to take the scenic but longer way home from work, he had no idea that he would be a hero in the terrible events that would follow.
But as he drove across the bridge over Assawoman Bay in Ocean City, Maryland, he got into a crash with several other cars.
The first thing I remember is hearing tires screech,
Bauer told a press conference
Then [he saw] the truck swaying back and forth like someone was losing control and trying to overcompensate,
he added.
Jonathan said that he wanted to thank the people who came to help him.
Bauer, Ava, and the mayor’s wife were made honorary EMS members by Ocean City’s mayor, Rick Meehan. Bauer was also given a plaque for all of his hard work.
Jonathan’s truly a humble hero and that’s what makes this even more special than it already was,
Meehan said, as per Ocean City Today.
This is a day of thank-yous. This was a really tragic accident … the ending of the story is everyone is okay, and they’re okay because of everyone in this room.
