“White House in Crisis? NBC Reports Biden Team Feels ‘Like a Morgue’ as Trump Gears Up for Inauguration”
NBC News reported on Thursday that President Joe Biden’s White House currently feels “like a morgue” ahead of President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, with Biden feeling “angry” and “melancholy” as he reflects on his legacy.
An unnamed person who recently met with Biden administration officials at the White House told NBC News that the mood “feels like a morgue” just days before Trump’s inauguration.
“Biden leaves office feeling he contributed significant wins for the country that Americans don’t appreciate,” NBC News’ Natasha Korecki, Carol E. Lee, and Jonathan Allen reported. “Privately, he has vacillated from feeling melancholy to resigned to angry to wistful as he reflects on his legacy, two people close to him said.”
One unnamed source “close to the president,” told NBC News that Biden was “totally dejected and the people around him are, as well,” while another official said many White House staffers were holding back their emotions until after Biden’s official departure.
NBC News also reported that Biden had considered pardoning Trump following the 2024 presidential election and that he was no longer on speaking terms with many of his “closest allies,” including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
“That relationship is permanently damaged,” an unnamed source reportedly close to Biden said.
Biden delivered his farewell Oval Office address on Wednesday, during which he warned that an “oligarchy” was “taking shape in America.”
“I want to warn the country of some things that give me great concern,” he said. “And that’s a dangerous concentration of power in the hands of a very few ultra-wealthy people and the dangerous consequences if their abuse of power is left unchecked.”
Biden is leaving the White House with just a 37% approval rating.
