These high school sweethearts who wed young and had children were on the brink of divorce. But when the woman saw a video from her son’s birthday celebration, she decided to give their marriage another try.

Marriage can be a challenging thing. Many relationships fail for a number of reasons, from lack of communication to an increasing sense of growing apart. A young woman on TikTok, Caitlin Fladager, recently shared the story of how she and her husband almost decided to go their separate ways after years together.

The Canadian couple had been dating for a long time before they married. The pair share two children together, a daughter, Arianna Slomski, and a younger son, Jack Slomski. However, a while after they welcomed their youngest into the world, trouble arose in their marriage.

Caitlin mentioned that things were getting so bad that she was considering a divorce. She was ready to give up on years of memories with her husband and the family they had built over time. Luckily, little Jack’s birthday changed everything for the long-time couple.

Where It All Started

Young love is always shot down by those who have experienced its downfall. But when her family told Caitlin that the boy she had met in her teens wouldn’t be the one she ended up spending her life with, she wouldn’t give in to the cynicism. She knew there was more between them, and she was going to persist.

Their relationship troubles seemed to grow until they appeared to be on the verge of a divorce

Although it became a serious, lasting relationship, it started like many relationships in the early 2000s did — with a trip to the mall and “Justin Bieber hair.” Caitlin shared that she first met her would-be-husband Noah Slomski at the age of 16. She was in 10th grade, and they both still needed to graduate, let alone cultivate a lasting relationship.

Caitlin recalled how everyone doubted she and Noah would last past high school, but when they successfully graduated together, she knew they could make it past anything. Caitlin remarked, “I ignored it all, because I knew deep down it wasn’t just puppy love.” That said, the pair would face a new challenge soon after graduation.

With high school diplomas in hand, Noah and Caitlin received some frightening news. Caitlin was pregnant. Having a child seemed daunting at first, but Caitlin was sure they could stick together and raise the little one, considering they’d already beaten the odds. Nonetheless, the news came with a new batch of cynics.

Caitlin recalled people telling her, “Be prepared; you may need to do this on your own. Babies are hard on couples, especially so young.” So many people were sure Noah and the mother of his child wouldn’t make it as parents, but the couple was dead set on making things last.

Noah supported Caitlin, and they had their first baby together — their little girl, Arianna. Caitlin was 19 at the time, and Noah was 18. They set about raising their little girl together, and three months after her birth, Noah decided to make things official by proposing.

Caitlin, over the moon, said yes, despite the fact that many around her were still shooting the relationship down with things like, “Very happy for you, but do you think this is a good idea? To get married? You two are still so young.”

Caitlin refused to listen to the negative comments and went through with the wedding. The two said their vows almost a year after their daughter’s birth. A few weeks later, Caitlin and Noah were overjoyed to discover they were expecting again.

When Caitlin’s Confidence Failed
Despite the years they’ve spent together and the obstacles they overcame, Caitlin and Noah started experiencing severe marital problems a few years after Noah was born. By 2018, the couple considered spending time apart to work through their issues while co-parenting their two kids.

After seeing the video, Caitlin knew they had to try to save their marriage.

Their relationship troubles seemed to grow until they appeared to be on the verge of a divorce. Caitlin was sure they were going to go their separate ways, already thinking of what the future held for them when she stumbled onto an old video she had taken of her and Noah celebrating Jack’s birthday.

Caitlin happened to scroll past a video of her and Noah on opposite sides of their son, filming the little guy while he geared up to blow out his birthday candles. When Caitlin looked back at the video and how Noah looked at her in the clip, the mother-of-two knew it would be a mistake to go through with the divorce.

Caitlin shared the video to TikTok, captioning the first half of her upload, “My husband and I were so close to a divorce and I thought there was no hope…” The second part showed the clip that saved their marriage and read, “Until I saw this video I had taken of us.”

The Video That Saved a Marriage
When Caitlin reflected on the video of her and Noah celebrating Jack’s birthday, their marriage was limping along on its last leg. They kept up a brave face for the kids, but Caitlin was sure they were heading for a divorce. Nonetheless, they stuck together, trying to fix the rift between them.

Just as it seemed their entire marriage was going to come crashing down on them, Caitlin saw the look her husband gave her as she watched Jack steady himself in anticipation of blowing out his birthday candles. As Caitlin smiled down at her son, Noah glimpsed up at his wife, admiring her silently.

Seeing the look of pure love in her husband’s eyes reminded Caitlin of how much she adored Noah and the years they’d fought to stay together despite others expecting them to break up. After seeing the video, Caitlin knew they had to try to save their marriage.

The video Caitlin posted to TikTok went viral, prompting many responses from people who stumbled across it. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with all the commenters gushing about how sweet it is that the struggling couple could find their way back to the love they once shared.

Now, after working through the problems they faced, Caitlin and Noah are thankful they stuck together. Caitlin commented, “I’m so glad I ignored all of those comments. Whether you’re 15 or 50 when you meet the love of your life, you will know right away. It’s not just puppy love.”
