Young dad left brain dead after hit and run – mom is asking for prayers

Life is incredibly fragile. And there is no greater evidence of how fragile life can be than incidents like these when a young life is impacted so severely.

21-year-old Edwin Favela from Houston, Texas was on his way home from work when the unthinkable happened. He was on his motorcycle leaving work next to Hardy Toll Road when the accident happened.

His motorcycle was hit by two speeding cars. A video obtained from a neighbor’s camera shows Favela turning and two cars speeding by just moments later.

“Two cars were racing and they hit my son,” his mother, Tracie Martinez said.

Favale’s close friend and co-worker, Ernesto Ovalle was the first person at the scene. “I was with him, like, two minutes ago,” he says. “Friends, family, he was a great kid. He was a great kid, he was a great friend,” Ovalle said about his friend.

Favela is currently on life support. “He’s still swelling in the brain right now. So they don’t think he’s gonna make it, but we’re still hoping for a miracle,” Tracie said.

Tracie is worried the most about Edwin’s four-year-old son, Aiden. She says Edwin was working extremely hard to pay for ear implants for his son.

“He was doing everything he could to earn the money for his son,” Tracie says.

Favela is in the ICU, and his family is awaiting a miracle. “He’s in the hospital. He’s hooked up to machines. You guys did this. You know you did this,” Tracie says. “No parent wants to go through this. No parent should have to go through this. Not at 21, not at 21.”

She is asking anyone who might have information about the accident to come forward and corporate with authorities in getting justice served. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Edwin’s family cope with the expenses of his hospital treatment and stay.
