60 Minutes gets ready to air shocking Trump report amid public claim by host that political stories were being ‘supervised’

CBS is getting ready to air a major and possibly controversial segment on Donald Trump tonight on its long-running show 60 Minutes. The episode is expected to reveal serious claims about how Trump is using his power as president to target law firms he believes are working against him.
The report is titled “The Rule of the Law” and will focus on Trump’s use of executive orders to go after legal groups he accuses of trying to weaponize the justice system.
This broadcast is getting extra attention because of some drama happening behind the scenes at CBS. Longtime 60 Minutes reporter and host Scott Pelley has recently spoken out publicly against his own network’s parent company, Paramount.
He claimed that Paramount has started interfering with political reporting, especially stories involving Trump. According to Pelley, this interference started around the same time Paramount was trying to complete a major merger that needed approval from the Trump administration.
Pelley said that although no stories were completely blocked, CBS leadership began to closely “supervise” what journalists were doing. He also shared that Bill Owens, the former executive producer of 60 Minutes, resigned because he felt he no longer had the freedom to run the show honestly and independently. Pelley praised Owens for standing up for journalism and said his resignation proved he was the right person for the job all along.
Meanwhile, Trump himself has gone on the attack against CBS. He filed a $20 billion lawsuit against the network and its parent company, accusing them of trying to interfere with the election.
He claimed they unfairly edited an interview with then–Vice President Kamala Harris in 2023 to make her look better. Trump also blasted 60 Minutes on his social media platform, calling it dishonest and politically biased.
The situation is so serious that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is now looking into whether CBS broke any rules when they aired that Kamala Harris interview. There are also complaints about how other networks handled political coverage—like ABC moderating a debate and NBC letting Harris appear on Saturday Night Live.
With all this going on, tonight’s 60 Minutes episode is expected to be explosive. It could spark even more controversy around how Trump is using his power, and it might shine a light on the pressures news organizations are facing behind the scenes. It’s a big moment for both journalism and politics, and people across the country will be watching closely.
