Donald Trump has sparked both confusion and mockery after launching into a furious rant on Truth Social about his official portrait hanging in Colorado’s State Capitol – a painting that was unveiled five years ago in 2019. The former president claimed the portrait was “purposefully distorted” to make him look bad while praising the same artist’s depiction of Barack Obama as “wonderful.”
In his lengthy post, Trump bizarrely demanded that Colorado Governor Jared Polis – whom he called “extremely weak on Crime” – take down the portrait, despite the fact that Polis had nothing to do with its creation. The artwork was actually commissioned by former Republican state senator Kevin Grantham, who raised funds for it via GoFundMe in 2018 to include Trump in Colorado’s Hall of Presidential Portraits.
The portrait itself shows Trump in a standard presidential pose, wearing a dark suit and red tie, though critics online noted it actually flatters him more than many real-life photos. This didn’t stop Trump from declaring it “truly the worst” and suggesting the artist “lost her talent as she got older.” He also claimed, without evidence, that “many people from Colorado have called and written to complain” about it.

Social media users quickly piled on with jokes about Trump’s latest grievance. Many pointed out the absurdity of him fixating on a years-old portrait while facing multiple legal battles and running for president again. One user sarcastically remarked, “The president is laser focused on the big issues,” while another called him “the most triggered snowflake president we have ever seen.” A third commenter noted, “He is the smallest, weakest, most insecure president we’ve ever had. How is this an issue he needed to spend even an ounce of time on?”
The incident is the latest in a long line of Trump’s public meltdowns over perceived slights, ranging from negative polls to unflattering photographs. His obsession with Obama’s legacy also continues, as he frequently compares himself to his predecessor in everything from portrait quality to crowd sizes. Meanwhile, the actual subject of his rant – the portrait – remains hanging in Colorado’s Capitol, likely to stay exactly where it is despite Trump’s demands.
