FLORIDA MAN ARRESTED AFTER TEENAGE WORKER AT SONIC GETS SHOT IN LEG FOLLOWING ARGUMENT IN DRIVE-THROUGH: COPS
A Florida man was arrested after a shooting at a Sonic restaurant left a teen girl wounded, police said
Around 10:00 p.m. on March 8, officers responding to the report of a shooting at the fast food restaurant in Orlando found a teen girl lying in a pool of blood, according to the Orlando Police Department.
The victim had suffered a gunshot wound to her upper right leg and was taken to a local hospital in stable condition, officials said.
According to the arrest report, a man and woman in an SUV were in the drive-through ordering food when an argument broke out and the man, later identified as 40-year-old Albert Jason Cortes Jr., threw a drink at some of the Sonic workers, WKMG reported.
The SUV pulled around the building, and Cortes exited the vehicle and was approached by the restaurant manager, officials said.
Police alleged Cortes punched the manager in the face and then started to fight with other employees, including the teen girl.
A short time later, gunshots rang out and the victim fell to the ground after getting struck, authorities said.
The man was seen putting a gun into his pants before getting back into the SUV and driving off, police said.
An investigation led authorities to Cortes, who was positively identified as the shooter, according to law enforcement officials.
He was arrested and charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, according to police.
Cortes was released on a $10,000 bond and was ordered to not return to the Sonic location.
