It started as what seemed like an act of kindness. Rayne Perrywinkle, a struggling single mother, was shopping with her three daughters when a stranger named Donald Smith approached them. Seeing her financial hardship, he offered to buy the girls new clothes and food. Grateful for the help, Rayne accepted—never imagining the monster she was dealing with.

Smith, a known sex offender with a long criminal history, lured the family to a Walmart under false pretenses. After buying the girls outfits, he convinced Rayne to let Cherish go with him to McDonald’s inside the store. That was the last time she saw her daughter alive.
