A man living in Texas with his mom who has her cleaning his area, is now being charged with murder and is sitting in jail.

24-year-old Alex Akpan is being charged with killing 23-year-old Irene Yemitan.

He attempted to hide her remains inside of his bedroom, however, as his mother went to clean to clean his room, she discovered Yemitan’s remains inside of a green recycling bin.

Because the green bin was supposed to be placed outside in their yard, Akpan’s mother was wondering why it was inside of the home. Once she opened the bin and looked at its contents, she quickly learned her son had did something very sick. A human foot stuck right out at her, and she screamed.

His mother then dumped out the contents of the bin and found Yemitan’s violated body inside. She called her ex-husband, and together they alerted authorities to what Akpan had done. She even tried to perform CPR on Yemitan’s corpse, but the young woman was long gone.

Yemitad had her entire future ahead of her. She hoped to make people feel beautiful and was pursuing a career as a beauty stylist at Houston Community College. Akpan put an end to her dreams.

Authorities could not find any obvious sign of trauma, but from how her eyes looked, they think she was strangled to death. And after a thorough investigation and an autopsy, the coroner ruled the Yemitan’s cause of death was strangulation

A witness told investigators that Yemitan had met Akpan only days before he killed her. The witness was Yemitan’s friend and had been with her when they befriended Akpan at the West Oaks Mall. He was a fellow student at the community college and was studying computer science.

The day before she was murdered, Yemitan posted a YouTube video titled “Lite Updated?”

“Where have I been? What have I been doing? Hold up, I have some explaining to do. I’ve been at school, that’s what I’ve been doing. School, living my best life. I do have some things I wanna tell Y’all, but it’s a surprise. I’ll share that with y’all later. Anyways, I can’t complain. I’m blessed, I’m happy, I’m doing what I need to do. I’m taking care of myself.”

Akpan refused to give a statement to the police as they arrested him. Instead, he requested a lawyer. Initially, he was just charged with tampering with evidence of a human corpse and was released on $10,000 bond. Now he’s back in jail on murder charges.

Friends remember Yemitan as a fighter who kept moving forward despite relentless bullying in high school because of her skin color.

Her soul was too beautiful for this world,” Quaneisha Morris told the Houston Chronicle. “Irene had the biggest, the most pure heart. No matter what people did to her or said to her, she was always kind.”
