A family in Lauderhill, Florida, was left devastated when their 11-month-old baby died after accidentally being left in a hot car for over an hour.
According to reports, the toddler was left in the car while the family unloaded groceries and remained there for at least an hour before family members realized that the child was never taken inside. The family consisted of the baby’s parents as well as four siblings.
“When we arrived here the family members, the mother and the father were still in the act of administering CPR themselves. You could clearly see they were very distraught over the fact that the child was unresponsive at that point,” Lauderhill Police Lt. Gregory Solowsky said. “It’s a tragedy.”
The infant was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead.
“The family is very, very upset. The entire family. The children, the parents. But they are cooperating with us and at this point it looks like it’s going to be a very, very tragic accident,” Solowsky said.
Lauderhill authorities are currently investigating the incident and putting together an accurate timeline of events.
“We are in the process of interviewing all family members as well as all the neighbors inside the apartment complex,” Solowsky told reporters.
It is not yet known whether charges will be filed in the toddler’s death.
