Ukraine LIVE: Trump’s six-word remark that’s set to upset Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has made it clear that he wants to restore Ukraine’s borders to how they were before Russia seized parts of the country. He has repeatedly stated that any peace deal must include the return of these territories.

Meanwhile, former U.S. President Donald Trump made comments that could complicate Zelensky’s goal. Ahead of a meeting in Saudi Arabia, Trump said he was discussing Ukraine’s borders and territories. His remarks suggested that these issues were open for negotiation, which might undermine Ukraine’s stance. Speaking briefly about the situation, he said, “We’re talking about territory right now.”

Trump elaborated further, mentioning discussions about “lines of demarcation” and who controls Ukraine’s power plants. He even suggested that some believe the United States should take ownership of certain power plants due to its expertise in managing them. His comments raised concerns about U.S. intentions regarding Ukraine’s energy resources.

According to two senior officials who spoke with the *Financial Times*, Trump is also interested in making a deal involving Ukraine’s power plants. This potential agreement could allow the U.S. to gain access to the country’s rare minerals, which are valuable for various industries.

Trump’s statements and potential negotiations could have a significant impact on Ukraine’s future, especially as Zelensky continues to push for the full return of all occupied territories.
